Campaign to promote Scottish food

A new campaign has been launched in Scotland, urging people to choose local food.

The National Farmers' Union Scotland (NFUS) aims to encourage people to think about their food and drink choices via the What's on your Plate? campaign.

The campaign is being led by farmers across Scotland and it involves school visits, information issued outside supermarkets and the Scottish Parliament, and barbeque events to introduce people to local foods.

Looking for 'Scottish' on the label and buying and eating seasonal food are among the campaign's tips to consumers.

A spokesman said:

"By buying Scottish food, we don't just invest in quality, we help safeguard our unique habitats and wildlife, tackle the increasing problem of food miles and underpin our rural communities and tens of thousands of jobs."
