Businesses optimistic about the future, report says

British businesses are looking forward optimistically to the future, according to the latest Regional Economic Trends report by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and the eight Regional Development Agencies (RDAs).

The twice-yearly report, drawn up from the responses of 3,000 businesses, found demand and output had both grown robustly.

The report also found that firms were optimistic that profit margins will increase and job creation will continue, though at a slower rate.

A CBI spokesman said:

"This is another round of solid growth in orders, output and jobs, with the benefits enjoyed by the majority of regions.

"Firms remain confident about the outlook, and with the trend in profit margins improved, are looking to step up investment in equipment, innovation and training."
