Firms look at energy cutting options

Businesses are helping in a bid to make their village the first carbon-neutral one in Britain.

Ashton Hayes in Cheshire has been working to improve the energy efficiency of its businesses and homes for the last 18 months.

The licensee of the Golden Lion Pub has cut more than £200 from his monthly electricity bill by turning off equipment when it is not being used, while there are plans to put together a local grid to connect renewable energy sources.

Students from Chester University are conducting an audit of each home's energy use, the BBC reported.
