Business demands transport investment
Business groups say the UK's transport systems and road infrastructure must be improved as part of the Government's decision to press ahead with plans to introduce road pricing in certain areas of the country.
The British Retail Consortium (BRC) warned that the plans, included in a draft bill to allow local councils to introduce their own charging schemes, could lead to "tumbleweed town centres". It said the money raised by the schemes must be reinvested in public transport.
The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) echoed the demands for more investment in transport infrastructure.
The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) also said the money raised should be ploughed back into the road network and public transport.
