Women's Institute supports dairy farmers

Dairy farming is at the top of the agenda for the Women's Institute (WI), which has launched a 'Great Milk Debate' to discuss what can be done to improve the lot of Britain's beleaguered dairy farmers.

The issue has been voted the WI's top priority and debates are taking place across the country.

It comes as figures reveal farmers are losing around 3p a litre on their milk, even though the supermarkets have promised to pay more for the product. However, few in the dairy sector believe this will help solve their problems. Many think it will help them break even rather than make a profit, The Guardian reported.
