Board game idea to fight obesity

A storyteller who came up with a game to tackle childhood obesity has won funding from her Regional Development Agency (RDA) to develop the product.

Sue Andrews, a school, library and kids' club storyteller from the West Midlands, made the prototype of Belly Busters from cardboard and even appeared on the TV show Dragons' Den.

She has received support from the Advantage West Midlands Innovation Networks fund to develop a proper version of the game. She has found a distributor for Belly Busters - which comes in board game size and giant size - and counts both national and local public health bodies among her first customers.

An Advantage West Midlands spokesman said:

"Belly Busters is an absolutely fantastic example of somebody having an idea, having the courage to pursue it and, with a little bit of support from Advantage West Midlands, being able to bring the product to market."
