Competition consultation launched
The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has launched an "informal" consultation and discussion paper on private actions to make competition law more effective, and to make it easier for businesses and customers to win compensation.
The OFT says infringements of competition law harm enterprises, which can then find it difficult to recover compensation and overcome the competitive disadvantages they have faced.
The OFT's chairman said:
"A more effective private actions system would promote a greater culture of compliance with competition law and ensure that public enforcement and private actions work together to the best effect for business and consumers."
The consultation will last for eight weeks. It ends on 13 June.
