Olympics could cause construction skills shortages
The promise of lucrative construction contracts for the London 2012 Olympics could leave other regions short of construction workers.
A director of a north east construction firm voiced concerns that tradespeople could leave the region for London, unless a change in attitude towards investment and training occurs.
St Astier, based in County Durham, has launched a training programme that includes personal and professional development in a bid to keep workers and apprentices in the region.
A spokesperson told The Northern Echo that although the Olympics represent golden opportunities for construction workers, the region will suffer if its skilled trades professionals head south.
