Careers index reveals hairdressers are happiest

The City and Guilds annual 'Happiness Index' has been released, and hairdressers are once again named the happiest workers.

The Index surveys employees on an annual basis, but this year City and Guilds surveyed businesses too, to see if there was a difference of opinion.

The study showed that employers scored their workers' happiness lower than staff rated it themselves. Over a quarter of firms thought financial incentives were key to their employees' happiness, but only 17% of workers agreed.

According to the Index, over two-thirds of workers are happy in their jobs. Workers in north east England are the happiest out of all regions. Unhappy workers include HR managers, secretaries, PAs and admin workers.
