Boots to ban cheques
Further evidence that the cheque is on its way out has come from Boots, which is banning cheque payments from 1 May.
The pharmacy giant has been trialling the idea in its stores in Surrey and Sussex, and says that use of cheques has fallen to around 0.1% of all purchases.
The retailer said the move to Chip and PIN payments meant fewer people were using cheques over the counter. Cheques are considered to have the highest risk of fraud of all payment types.
Boots' Alliance network of pharmacies will continue to accept cheques for the time being, the BBC reported.
