New business airline is flying high

A business owner who started an airline solely for business-class customers says he's managing to almost half-fill his planes.

Lawrence Hunt's Silverjet charges from £799 to fly between Luton Airport and Newark, New Jersey. The service was only launched in January, but in February, its planes were, on average, 45% full.

Lawrence said in a press release that forward bookings were "substantially ahead" of the firm's expectations and that feedback had been "overwhelmingly positive".

Silverjet is offering cheaper prices, check-in by mobile phone, a ladies-only onboard toilet and claims to be the first carbon-neutral airline in the world because it charges a mandatory carbon offset payment.
