Small firms won't escape WEEE regulations

Small businesses must be able to dispose of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that they have sold when the items are returned to them by consumers, the Government has confirmed.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has published information to ensure distributors and producers are aware of their responsibilities under the WEEE Regulations, which come fully into force on 1 July.

The DTI said there were no exemptions for smaller firms, but the Government was working to ensure the costs to small enterprises were not disproportionate, Out-Law reported.
