Businesses urged to brighten up workplaces

A lack of greenery or natural light may have an effect on the health and wellbeing of employees, new research has found.

Some 46% of full-time workers say their workplaces are gloomy or depressing, and 84% say their surroundings have a significant effect on their happiness and motivation.

The results come from a survey by Ambius, the new name for Rentokil Tropical Plants.

It found workers in depressing environments took an average of 14 sick days per year, compared wth the typical figure of eight days, Ananova reported. This is costing businesses almost £4.5 billion annually in sick pay.
