Emu News, the brainchild of a family from County Durham, beat eight other ideas at the Family's Fortune business event held at Durham's Gala Theatre.

The online newsletter template would allow schools to deliver their news to parents via the Internet instead of relying on paper letters, which are often left crumpled in the bottom of pupils' schoolbags.

The competition netted the family an Apple MacBook and some free business advice sessions. It was part of the Business Link What's Yours campaign.
