Wage payments delayed
Businesses that pay their staff by electronic bank transfer may be among hundreds of enterprises that will not be able to pay employees their wages as expected today.
The BACS system, which processes the payments, has been running slowly and up to 400,000 people expecting their monthly salaries today will be disappointed.
UK payments association APACS said around 1.6% of the payments expected today would not be delivered. It apologised and said the affected payments would be processed for tomorrow.
