Website helps Yorkshire small firms to stay safe
A regional website has been developed to help small businesses in Yorkshire protect themselves from cyber crime.
The site provides guidance and online tools to help small businesses check how secure their systems are, and avoid phishing and pharming attacks.
The site is a pilot set up by Yorkshire's four police forces, with other partners including the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), the Mid-Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Yorkshire Forward. The site will eventually be rolled out across England and even Europe.
Speaking to public sector research portal Kable, technical project leader Dr Babak Akghar said:
"Small businesses are keen to take advantage of everything that online business has to offer, but often don't know how to protect their businesses from the risks that this opens up. However, with this new site they will be able to arm themselves with the latest facts on e-security and learn about the security implications of e-business"
