Search for retail community hero

Shops that have made a real difference to their neighbourhood are being invited to enter this year's Community Heroes Awards.

Organised by the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS), the awards have a top prize of £1,000.

For the first time, the winner will be decided by an online vote, with the three finalists appearing on the ACS website.

The ACS's James Lowman said:

"It is important to recognise publicly the valuable contribution many local retailers make to their neighbourhoods, which can range from local youth football team sponsorship to providing health check ups for the elderly."
