Milk deliveries go green

A green revolution is taking place in the dairy industry.

Milk 'bags', which are completely biodegradable, are being launched by South Caernarfon Creameries (SCC). They'll be delivered to the door, along with a special storage tray and jug to hold them.

The farmer-owned co-operative, which has 190 members across north Wales, took inspiration from Canada, where around 65% of fresh milk is sold in bags. SCC is the first to test the idea in the UK.

Chief executive Richard Elmitt told icWales:

"Not only are our milk bags easy and convenient for customers to use, they are very environmentally friendly, and we hope they will also boost the role of the milkman, which has sadly been in decline in recent years."
