Indoor farmers' market concept proves popular
An indoor farmers' market in south west London is making it easier for consumers to buy local, fresh produce.
Farmers' City Markets is a concept that allows consumers to buy local, fresh food without the inconvenience of shopping in the open air and having to pay cash, as reported in The Guardian.
Founders Jana Satchi, Stephen Wilkinson and George Beach opened their first store in Hampton Hill, Middlesex, just before Christmas. Stephen said of the enterprise:
"Jana and I were at Borough Market in London one day and it was freezing. It was at that point we thought: wouldn't it be great to do something like this but indoors?"
The store is open seven days a week, and provides parking and recycled shopping bags. Customers can pay for their goods with credit cards, and all produce is labelled with origin and grower information so consumers know exactly what they are buying.
