Coaching phone service reveals careers trends
A telephone advice service that provides help to adults looking to learn new skills has identified some interesting careers trends - suggesting that the current shortage of recruits to the skilled trades may be getting better.
Most callers to the Learn Direct telephone careers coaching service, which was launched a year ago, cite dissatisfaction in their current job as the reason for calling.
The service was established to help people who are facing redundancy, stuck in a rut, or who simply fancy a change. It has found that both men and women are increasingly opting for traditional trades over jobs in professions like IT.
The University for Industry (Ufi) reports that the five most popular career choices enquired about via the service are:
- Electrician
- Plumber
- Teaching assistant
- Nursery nurse
- Nurse
