Manufacturers and suppliers say they expect to see a surge in demand when smoking in enclosed public spaces is banned in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Pubs are likely to be among the biggest customers.

Kelvin Bennett, from outdoor furniture supplier and manufacturer Lamata, told The Publican:

"Those businesses that plan ahead are less likely to lose out. A key element is to prepare your premises by creating an outdoor smoking area that is attractive and protected from the elements."
