Niche beer hits the big time in Scandinavia
A North Yorkshire brewery is demonstrating the benefits of exporting by toasting success for a new product in Scandinavia.
Harrogate-based Daleside Brewery launched a new beer containing Belgian dark chocolate in the run-up to Christmas.
It produced 10,000 bottles of Daleside Chocolate Stout to test the market in Finland. The entire stock sold out in just five weeks.
Daleside, which employs nine staff, started life in the early 1990s and now produces 57,000 pints a week. It has developed its overseas sales strategy following advice and guidance from UK Trade & Investment's (UKTI) Targeted Export Support Scheme (TESS).
Daleside's managing director, Eric Lucas, told the Government's News Network:
"We knew we'd produced something that would appeal particularly to our Scandinavian customers, but even we were surprised at the speed at which it flew off the shelves."
