Taxing phishing scam
Small businesses rushing to file their online tax returns before the 31 January deadline should beware of a phishing scam that attempts to extract their financial details.
Cyber criminals are posing as the taxman and requesting bank information, so that they can send the victim a "tax rebate". The e-mail they are using is said to be very convincing.
Elaine Dyer, from chartered accountant Martin Aitken and Co, told The Scotsman:
"The IT experts within our accountancy practice commented on the very polished and professional composition of the e-mail and they fear many businesses may be fooled into providing such confidential information."
