Shoppers shun sales
After warnings that bricks and mortar shops were facing a poor Christmas shopping season, it seems the sales period hasn't been much better.
Retail analyst FootFall says there were 6.8% fewer folk on the high street in the week after Christmas than 12 months earlier.
Bigger utility bills and increased borrowing costs, which are being blamed for the widely forecast fall in Christmas spending, are also being blamed for the poor turnout at the sales.
However, these figures don't take into account online spending, which is thought to have soared, Sky News reported.
