Poor usability costs online retailers

Online retailers could lose nine million shoppers if they don't improve the usability of their websites.

That's according to research from Webcredible which claims that poor browsing and payment facilities, hidden charges and forced registration are key bugbears for online shoppers.

Long checkout procedures, and unclear contact and delivery details are also among online consumers' pet peeves.

Talking to Computing magazine, Webcredible director Trenton Moss claims retailers need to become more user-friendly to avoid losing online shoppers:

"If online retailers concentrate on making the buying process as user-friendly, simple and transparent as possible, they will see a big difference to the bottom line."
