Date for WEEE regulations
Businesses dealing with electrical and electronic equipment need to make contingency plans - if they haven't done so already - to manage their waste products.
The Government is finally implementing the European WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), which means that from July 2007, producers and importers will be liable for meeting the environmental costs of disposing of waste electrical products.
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) said the announcement gave small firms an element of "bittersweet relief" because there has been such a long delay in implementing the Directive.
Spokesman John Holbrow said:
"We believe that it is now imperative that the DTI begins a planned and sustained communication and awareness-raising programme aimed at small businesses."
The Government has published downloadable guidance about the Regulations.
