That's the sentiment from bus operator FirstGroup, which has set up a training school for Polish bus drivers in the UK.

The company believes Polish drivers are more reliable and more likely to stay in the job than British drivers. It now has around 1,000 Polish drivers out of its total pool of 20,000.

Chief executive Moir Lockhead told The Independent:

"They are good workers, there's no doubt. With good attendance.

"They are pretty fundamental to our future. They have been very good for the company and for the economy, I think."
