No to cheap online beer and fags
Corner shops have escaped a hammer blow to trade after judges decided that Internet and mail order customers can't buy cheap tobacco and alcohol from other European Union (EU) states.
The European Court of Justice has decided not to allow shoppers in other EU nations to buy cheaper beer and cigarettes and have them delivered to their homes.
If they want to take advantage of the lower prices elsewhere, they will have to travel abroad to make their purchases and accompany them home, the BBC reported.
That means the trend of the 'booze cruise' will continue. These already cost the Treasury around £1 billion annually in lost duty, and it's likely that the figure would have been astronomical if the changes had been allowed.
