Business launch for Vista

It's taken 10,000 workers and half a decade to prepare it for launch - but Microsoft's new Vista operating system is finally here.

Instead of three years as expected, it has taken Microsoft five years to get the Vista system ready to use.

It goes on sale to business users today but domestic users won't be able to get their hands on it until the end of January next year.

David Smith, a Vista expert at consulting firm Gartner, firmly expects it to become the dominant business operating system.

He told the BBC:

"In 18 months you will see the majority of [business] computers running on Vista."
