Boost for social enterprise
The Government's ploughing money into social enterprises as it tries to persuade more people to reinvest in their communities.
It's promising more than £18 million as part of its Social Enterprise Action Plan (SEAP), which will also encourage social enterprise in schools, look at improving the market for such ventures and appoint a number of social enterprise ambassadors as role models.
Chancellor Gordon Brown said:
"In my view, social enterprise is the new British business success story, forging a new frontier of enterprise - a quiet revolution involving 55,000 social enterprises in our country from the smallest community groups to larger businesses."
