Why HR is hands-on

A woman who lost her job when the factory where she worked shut has started a new business helping other firms get their human resources (HR) right.

Polly Lerner had worked as the HR manager at MFI in Stockton on Tees for three years. The factory closed in May.

Polly has now secured eight clients for her own HR firm - Hands-on HR - which she runs from her home in Darlington, County Durham.

She told icNewcastle:

"Self-employment wasn't something I had given much thought to previously, however after researching the market I soon realised there was a need for HR support for small businesses."
