University start up record

Student entrepreneurs have helped a university break its business start up record.

There were 20 new start ups and three spin-out businesses created at Edinburgh University in the 12 months to the end of July.

The majority - 19 - were in science and engineering, while almost half of the new enterprises came from the Edinburgh Pre-Incubator Scheme (EPIS). The university has helped to create 57 new companies in the last five years - 91% of which are still trading, The Scotsman reported.
