Cyber criminal alert
Make sure your security software is up to date - because the police are on the trail of a gang of cyber criminals carrying out a sustained attack on British computers.
The hackers, who are based in the US, have accessed at least 2,300 PCs with a 'backdoor' virus, which is able to record bank and credit card details, passwords and e-mail accounts.
The Metropolitan Police's Computer Crime Unit, which is working on the case with the FBI, says "possibly tens of thousands" of computers have been compromised.
Det Chief Insp Charlie McMurdie told This Is Money:
"This is a significant attack. This virus is taking people's details without them knowing about it."
