Microsoft security row

Microsoft's new Vista operating system is already being criticised for leaving users open to security risks.

Software giant McAfee has taken out a full page advert in the Financial Times to warn Vista users about its worries.

It's concerned that third-party software firms - such as itself - are locked out of Vista's security system. That, says McAfee, increases the possibility that hackers and viruses will be able to compromise the system.

In the advert, McAfee boss George Samenuk says:

"With its upcoming Vista operating system, Microsoft is embracing the flawed logic that computers will be more secure if it stops co-operating with the independent security firms."

The European Union (EU) is keeping a close eye on the release of Vista to ensure that it doesn't amount to monopoly abuse on Microsoft's behalf, the BBC reported.
