The new service - eBay Express - works just like an ordinary online store. Customers order new goods, which can be returned, and there is a guaranteed delivery date.

Shops that want to join the scheme will be vetted before they're allowed on board.

Mark Bage, of fashion store Sarah Coggle, told The Guardian:

"eBay can't let any Tom, Dick and Harry on to it. It's established stores, and customers will feel less wary."
