Skills crisis on the horizon

Firms should stop complaining about the lack of skilled workers available and actually do something about training them, according to the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

Britain is facing a skills shortage, but one in three employers do not provide any training for their staff, the TUC said.

The report found six million UK workers have literacy problems while even more have problems with numeracy.

TUC secretary-general Brendan Barber said:

"Employers should stop complaining so much about the skills levels of their staff and spend more time on training them."
