Supermarket booze prices slammed

Cheap booze is being used by the supermarkets to lure in customers to the detriment of corner shops which can't compete, it's been claimed.

The claims were made in a submission to the Competition Commission, which is currently looking into the alleged dominance of the multiples.

The submission was made by an unnamed director of a chain of convenience stores, who labelled the "ridiculous" prices as an "irresponsible" practice.

The charity, Action on Addiction, also criticised supermarket prices as helping to fuel drink problems, This Is Money reported.
