Older staff 'no use to us'

Seven out of ten bosses reckon they can't see the point in employing older staff - but if they don't get their heads around the issue soon, they'll be in big trouble.

A survey by employment law company Peninsula, ahead of the regulations outlawing ageism in the workplace, also found eight out of ten firms haven't yet bothered altering their human resources practices to take the changes into account.

The new Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 come into force on 1 October, and will also prevent employers discriminating against younger workers due to their age, Management Issues reported.
