Mixed messages for business support
There's mixed news for Government efforts to help small businesses today.
The British Chambers of Commerce's (BCC) latest survey, Doing Business in the UK, found most members think there is a need for the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), but it was widely criticised for not doing enough to help businesses.
Almost eight out of ten of those surveyed thought the DTI should focus more on small business support in the future.
Meanwhile, the Small Business Service (SBS), which has also been roundly criticised in recent weeks, is facing a shake-up.
According to The Guardian, it'll be refocused from an organisation set up to help entrepreneurs, becoming a lobbying group instead.
The news comes as the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) demands that the SBS is given more real authority to promote small firms.
