Consumer complaints chart
Consumer Direct, the consumer advice service supported by the Office of Fair Trading, has come up with a list of the top consumer complaints.
Topping the list of gripes are home improvement and maintenance services - with general building work causing the most problems, followed by kitchen fitters, plumbers, heating engineers, roofers and electricians.
Other common complaints were about mobile phone contracts and second-hand cars.
Consumer Direct call centre manager Michele Shambrook reported that the majority of problems the service was asked to advise on concerned expensive goods and services.
