Employers to provide more training, says TUC
Almost a quarter of the UK's A-level students achieved top grades this week but it's employers that are now being called on to raise training levels in the workplace.
Speaking about Thursday's A-level results, Deputy Secretary General of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Frances O'Grady, claimed:
"Employers could be doing much more to improve the skills of the one in four 16-18-year olds who are either out of work or who are in dead-end jobs where they never receive any training. Taking on more apprentices and offering a variety of high quality workplace training could make a real difference to the lives of many of these young people."
This comes after earlier calls from the British Chambers of Commerce to scrap A-levels altogther and opt for more vocational courses that would prepare young people to work in British business.
