Michael Chambers has set up the Benchmark Decorating and Building consultancy and website to advise people on the going rate for a job and to stop them from being ripped off.

Michael, who spent 25 years in the building, painting and decorating industry, told icWales:

"We know - or can find out - the typical cost of materials and labour charges in one particular area.

"People can call us and send us plans, details and quotes and we can work out pretty accurately what they should be paying."
