Olympic-sized business boost

The Government is encouraging businesses to make the most of the benefits on the way from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell says businesses must seize the opportunity and ensure the whole of the UK gets something out of the Olympic experience.

She's launched a series of measures, including a tourism consultation, an Olympic Delivery Authority Procurement Policy and a Games Sustainability Policy.

In practice, these measures will enable the Government to outline exactly how the delivery of goods and services will be managed in preparation for the Olympics, as well as explaining how the environmental impact of the work connected with the Games will be tackled. The tourism consultation affords businesses the opportunity to put forward their ideas for maximising the benefits to the sector that the Games could bring.

Ms Jowell said:

"We want to make sure the business sector UK-wide is fully engaged in our plans from the very beginning, and that they have every possible tool at their disposal to maximise their own opportunities."
