Messaging amalgamation
Yahoo! and Microsoft's MSN messaging applications are linking up in an agreement which will allow their users to send multimedia messages to each other.
The two instant messaging systems, which have 350 million users worldwide, will continue to compete for customers but the two services will be compatible with each other.
Their threat to mainstream phone companies and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone systems will come when they develop the technology to allow people to use the platform for texting and VoIP, The Times reported.
