Farmer's crisp thinking

A crisp entrepreneur is setting his sights on becoming a potato king.

Will Chase founded Tyrrells potato chips - which makes high-quality, hand-cooked crisps - four years ago. He's on course to make £12 million worth of the luxury crisps this year.

But the potato farmer, who bounced back from bankruptcy to set up his firm, has more ideas up his sleeve, including a potato vodka and oat-based healthy snacks.

It's all a big improvement on the day that a batch of Will's spuds got rejected by a big manufacturer and seller of 'premium' crisps, who wanted potatoes that were a bit more "dark and knobbly". When Will tasted the end product, he thought he could do better - and armed with a second-hand fryer from his local chippy, he did just that.

Explaining his desire to be a "serial enterpreneur", he told The Guardian:

"Everybody's looking for a widget in life. Something that's going to make it happen. And I think that was it."
