Farm fight success

A brother and sister using a novel idea to beat the big businesses and buy the farm which had been in their family for generations have won their battle.

Charlotte and Ben Hollins had to raise £800,000 to buy Fordhall Farm near Market Drayton, Shropshire, from their landlords and prevent it from being sold to the giant Muller Diaries next door.

They set up the Fordhall Community Land Initiative, sold shares in the farm and appealed for donations and grants.

In a project thought to be the first of its kind in the UK, the farm has been leased back to the Hollinses, who will run it as a organic and educational venture.
