'Skipper' is an illuminated retractable barrier which the emergency services, event managers and construction industry can use to link together traffic cones.

The device was invented by Alan Bentley, who owns the Skipper company in Wilmslow, Cheshire. He says interest in the product has been translated into strong sales.

He told the Manchester Evening News:

"Skipper saves time, money and space, it's so simple to use and can be used time and time again."
