Green Party peer Lord Beaumont has introduced a Piped Music and Showing of Television Programmes Bill, which would effectively ban 'muzak'.

He told the BBC:

"We all love music as long as it's the right kind of music and we can turn it on and off."

But there is no guarantee Lord Beaumont's bid to tackle noise pollution will work; Tory MP Robert Key attempted something similar in 2000 - to no avail.
