People working in the creative industries are more likely to go it alone because they want the flexibility that goes with being their own boss, according to the Freelance UK website.

Its report found that although money was a factor, lifestyle choices were considered the biggest benefit - especially in the fraught financial times after starting up.

The findings reflect a study carried out out in April by insurer More>Than, which labelled the phenomenon 'fambition'.
