Amicus offers advice on its website to members who decide to ditch work for the day, saying:

"It is quite difficult to prove that someone is not really sick if they have one day off."

But the article has enraged the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), which says it is "appalled". It said with absence costing £13 billion annually, it was wrong for a major union to give advice on taking a sickie.
